Saint Leonard church in Busko-Zdrój

Saint Leonard Church is a wooden structure built in 1699 in Busko-Zdrój, showing typical construction methods of southern Małopolska. Its hexagonal tower features an arcaded lantern topped with a bulbous roof, creating the building's distinctive silhouette.

The original settlement began in the 12th century when shepherds established themselves around this site, marking the start of Busko-Zdrój's growth. The wooden church that stands today was built in the 17th century to replace the earlier structure.

The church serves as a pilgrimage destination each year on the Sunday after November 6th, celebrating Saint Leonard's feast day. Visitors gather here in community, giving the place ongoing religious meaning in local life.

The church is located at Bohaterów Warszawy 8 within a cemetery southwest of the market square, accessible via the road toward Pińczów. Visitors can explore the area on foot, as it sits conveniently near other local sites.

The entrance portal displays an inscription reading IHS/ANNO DOMINI 1699 on its lintel, documenting the year of construction. The church stairs contain fragments of 15th-century tombstones that were incorporated into the structure itself.
