Citadel Rail Bridge, Railway bridge in Warsaw, Poland.
The Citadel Rail Bridge crosses the Vistula River with seven spans designed to carry trains between eastern and western Warsaw. The structure serves as a key railway connection through the heart of the city.
The original bridge opened in 1875 carrying both rail and road traffic across the Vistula. It was destroyed in 1944 as German forces retreated, and a new structure replaced it in the postwar years.
The bridge connects neighborhoods that were once separated by the river and remains integral to how people move through the city. It shapes the daily landscape of the Vistula corridor.
You can cross the bridge on foot and get the best views from the riverbanks on either side of the Vistula. The area is walkable and accessible from the Citadel Park area through multiple approaches.
Divers working in the Vistula found pieces of the original steel structure from 1875 still resting on the riverbed. These submerged remains offer a physical connection to the bridge's nineteenth-century past.
