Monaster Narodzenia Matki Bożej w Różanymstoku, Orthodox monastery in Różanystok, Poland
Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Różanystok is an Orthodox convent in eastern Poland with a cluster of churches, monastic quarters, and support buildings spread across the grounds. The complex also encompasses agricultural land with fruit orchards, vegetable gardens, and artificial ponds that once sustained the community.
The convent was moved to this location in 1901 from Grodno under the guidance of Abbess Helena Konovalova who came from Lesna Monastery. This relocation established a new Orthodox monastic community in northeastern Poland.
The religious community operated two literacy schools, a teacher training seminary, a hospital, and provided various social services to the local population.
Visitors can explore the grounds on foot as the buildings and gardens are connected by pathways throughout the complex. Allow enough time to walk between the different structures and take in the agricultural areas.
The convent operated its own power generator to provide electricity for its buildings, making it largely self-sufficient in energy production. The monks also safeguarded religious icons dating to the 17th century, including an image said to contain relics of Saint Panteleimon.
