Muzeum Zabawek i Zabawy w Kielcach

The Museum of Toys and Play in Kielce is housed in a neoclassical building with four wings arranged around a rectangular courtyard on Wolnosti Square. The structure contains thousands of toys displayed across multiple exhibition areas throughout the space.

The building was originally constructed in 1872 as a commercial bazaar for trading goods. It was converted into a toy museum in 1979 and relocated to its current site in 2006.

The collections include traditional Polish toys alongside international playthings, reflecting how childhood and play have shifted across generations. These objects show what children valued and played with at different times in history.

The museum is accessible from Tuesday through Sunday and visitors can explore the exhibition spaces at their own pace over several hours. It is helpful to arrive with time to visit all sections without feeling rushed.

A mechanical figure of Baba Yaga emerges from a turret and moves at noon each day, creating a moment of surprise in the courtyard for those paying attention. This moving sculpture is an element that many visitors overlook on first viewing, even though it carries a reference to Eastern European folklore.
