Narodnij Dim in Przemyśl

The Narodnij Dim in Przemyśl is a multistory residential building located at Kosciszki Street that serves multiple functions under one roof. It features a theater hall seating around 400 people, dining facilities, and administrative spaces.

Construction began in 1901 through community fundraising efforts led by Dr. Teofil Kormosz and was completed in 1904. The building then developed into an important cultural center for the local Ukrainian population.

The building served as a gathering place for Ukrainian community events and theatrical performances over many decades. People used its spaces for celebrations and regular gatherings centered on their cultural heritage.

The building is easily visible and accessible from a main street location. Visitors should note that it is a protected monument, so public access to interior spaces may be limited.

Local residents collectively purchased the land, demolished existing structures, and built this large tenement to establish their own cultural center. This grassroots initiative was remarkable for its time and demonstrates how the community pooled resources for their shared space.
