Opalony Wierch, Mountain summit in Tatra National Park, Poland
Opalony Wierch is a summit in the High Tatras with two distinct peaks rising to 2115 meters (6,938 feet). Steep slopes and numerous gullies characterize its structure across the alpine landscape.
The first documented winter ascent occurred on April 17, 1911, when mountaineers Henryk Bednarski and L. Michalski reached the summit during the Miedziane ridge expedition. This milestone marked an important moment in the early exploration of this alpine area.
The mountain sits between Morskie Oko lake and the Valley of Five Polish Lakes, within a protected natural area that holds meaning for Polish mountaineers. Experienced climbers visit this region to experience the alpine landscape and engage with the mountaineering tradition of the Tatras.
The approach starts from the Palenica Białczańska parking area with trails leading higher into the mountains. Nearby mountain shelters at Morskie Oko and Stara Roztoka offer rest stops and refreshments for visitors.
The Żleb Żandarmerii gully on the mountain's slopes experiences frequent avalanches during winter months. These repeated slides reshape the natural rock formations and create ever-changing terrain features.
