Vyšný kostúr

Vyšný kostúr is a mountain summit in the High Tatras standing at approximately 2,080 meters (6,800 feet) on the border between Slovakia and Poland. The peak features sharp ridges and steep drops on multiple sides, creating a dramatic landscape in this alpine environment.

The summit was first documented in climbing records during the early 1900s, when mountaineers began exploring the Tatras systematically. This period marked the beginning of modern climbing traditions in the range.

The mountain carries different names across the border, each reflecting how neighboring communities historically identified this peak. These variations show how the region was shaped by people from different cultural backgrounds.

This summit is only suitable for experienced mountaineers with technical rock climbing skills due to exposed sections and steep terrain throughout the route. The nearest mountain shelter is located at some distance and provides lodging for those planning to climb in stages.

The summit has two different official elevations depending on which country's measurement is used, creating an interesting anomaly for a border peak. Such variations are common in mountain ranges that straddle international boundaries.
