Hladký štít, Mountain summit in Poprad District, Slovakia
Hladký štít is a mountain in the High Tatras rising to 2065 meters and features granite rock formations with steep slopes above Tichá dolina valley. The summit and surrounding slopes show distinct differences between rocky upper areas and grassy lower sections.
The first documented climb of this summit took place in the mid-17th century when Juraj Buchholtz and his expedition team reached the peak. This early exploration marked the beginning of climbing activity in this region.
The mountain's name comes from Slovak language and refers to the smooth grassy slopes that are visible from the surrounding valleys. Visitors notice these gentle characteristics of the mountainside as they explore the area.
The summit requires guidance from certified mountain guides since there are no marked trails leading directly to the peak. Climbers should prepare thoroughly and be in good physical condition before attempting the ascent.
On clear days visitors can see three different mountain ranges from this summit: the High Tatras, Western Tatras, and Lower Tatras. This rare viewpoint shows the full extent of the mountain landscape in one sweep.
