Niebieska Turnia, Mountain summit in Tatra Mountains, Poland.
Niebieska Turnia is a summit in the High Tatras with an elevation of 2262 meters. The peak features steep rocky walls and sharp ridges that connect to neighboring summits on either side.
The first recorded ascent occurred in summer 1907 when Zofia Kordysowna, Zygmunt Klemensiewicz, and Roman Kordys reached the summit. This early climb marks the beginning of mountaineering activity on this particular peak.
The name comes from a local mountaineer's surname rather than the rock color. People in the valleys below have used this name for generations as part of their mountain landscape.
Climbing this peak requires advanced technical skills and physical fitness. The approach from the east involves a steep descent of about 40 meters where rope equipment is necessary for safe passage.
A major rockslide in 2018 destroyed part of a nearby red hiking trail and caused route changes. This natural event shows how active and changing the mountain landscape remains.
