Kozi Wierch

Kozi Wierch is a mountain summit in the High Tatras with sheer granite cliffs on its northern side and gradual slopes descending toward the south. The peak rises prominently within this mountain range and creates a distinctive profile in the landscape.

The peak was first reached in 1867 when mountaineers and their guide successfully ascended to the top. Decades later, a mountain path with safety features was built to make the area more accessible to visitors.

The name recalls mountain goats that once roamed this area and were spotted by local herders working in the high meadows. Visitors today can experience the same rocky terrain that attracted these animals.

Several marked trails lead to the summit and can be accessed from Zakopane, with regular bus and train connections available from nearby cities. Bring proper hiking boots and weather-resistant clothing since conditions at elevation can shift quickly.

A dramatic mountain path with steel safety cables was built in the early 1900s and runs along the ridge encircling the peak. This historic route offers a more adventurous option for experienced hikers wanting to traverse the steeper sections.
