Gąsienicowa Turnia, Mountain summit in Tatra National Park, Poland.
Gąsienicowa Turnia is a mountain in the High Tatras with four distinct peaks ranging between 2266 and 2279 meters. Steep rock walls drop away from these summits down to the basins of Mylna Kotlinka and Dolinka pod Kołem.
Scientists and explorers documented the geological formations and wildlife of this mountain during 19th-century expeditions. These early journeys helped establish scientific understanding of the Tatra region.
The summit's name comes from the neighboring Gąsienicowa Valley, following the traditional way the local region names its mountains. Herders used the surrounding valleys for grazing for centuries, which shaped how people understood this alpine area.
A marked red hiking trail runs along the southern slopes and connects Kasprowy Wierch to Zawrat at about 2280 meters. This path offers access to several climbing routes and descent options in the surrounding area.
The north-facing wall has multiple climbing routes between two mountain passes, offering interesting challenges for experienced climbers. These routes see less traffic than the popular main trail and provide a different experience for advanced hikers.
