Oszus

Oszus is a mountain summit reaching 1155 meters in the Oravsky Beskydy range. Its peak straddles the Slovakia-Poland border, making it a natural boundary marker in the Western Carpathians.

The region experienced multiple boundary changes across centuries as Central European powers reshuffled their territories. The mountain area fell under different control at various times, which shaped its current position as an international border.

The mountain slopes host seasonal grazing activities where local herds move upward in summer following ancient pastoral traditions. Families from both sides of the border have shaped this landscape through these practices for many generations.

The mountain lies within a network of hiking paths that connect to trails in the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area. Visitors should bring proper mountain gear and be aware of the border location when planning their route.

The summit offers a vantage point where visitors can see both Slovak and Polish terrain spread out below them. This viewpoint rarely gets highlighted as a special feature despite its powerful position between the two countries.
