The Diocesan Museum in Tarnów occupies three historic townhouses from the 16th century and displays religious artworks alongside cultural artifacts from Lesser Poland. The rooms contain pieces spanning different periods that reflect the artistic development of the region.
The museum was founded in 1888 and is the oldest diocesan museum in Poland. Its collection developed over centuries through church donations and acquisitions that preserved important artworks and religious objects.
The museum displays extensive guild art including Gothic sculptures, medieval church textiles, and paintings from the region. A dedicated exhibition tells the story of Romani people and their presence in the area.
The museum offers guided tours in several languages including English, German, and Polish to help visitors understand the collections better. Photography is permitted in the exhibition spaces so you can document your visit.
The numismatic collection includes gold and silver coins that were added in 2019 as a gift marking the centenary of Pope John Paul II's birth. These special pieces show how modern donations continue to enrich the museum and honor significant moments.
