Ogród Profesorski w Krakowie, Medieval university garden in Old Town, Poland.
The Professor's Garden is a historic campus garden in the Old Town situated between two academic buildings and spanning about 0,15 hectares. Stone paths, wooden benches, and carefully selected plants create a quiet study space with educational scientific displays.
This garden began in 1467 when professors used the land to grow fruits and vegetables to support the university. They expanded its purpose in 1475 by adding a poultry yard, blending practical agricultural activities with academic work.
Stone sculptures of professors in academic robes stand throughout the space, while interactive scientific instrument models show how scholars worked across the centuries. These artworks help visitors understand the institution's role in scientific advancement.
This space is open seasonally from April through October and can be entered from Jagiellonska Street near the university buildings. The paths are easy to navigate with flat surfaces and benches placed throughout for resting and observation.
Behind one of the buildings sits a dedicated herb section showing how universities applied medical knowledge in practice. A reconstructed armillary sphere and working sundial are overlooked details that reward closer inspection.
