Ogród japoński w Jarkowie, Japanese garden in Jarków, Poland
The Japanese garden in Jarków is a garden space that spans across a large, sloping site and features multiple ponds, waterfalls, and carefully trimmed trees that form miniature landscapes. Different levels connect through pathways and bridges, creating one unified experience as you move through the space.
Edward Majcher started this garden project during the 1980s and personally designed and built all the landscaping work with very little help from others. This long-term effort to build and maintain the space shaped what stands today.
The garden applies Japanese landscaping principles through its plant choices, including Japanese maples, pines, cypresses, magnolias, azaleas, and bamboo. You can see how these species work together to create spaces that follow the rules of Japanese garden design.
The garden is open during the warmer months and most visitors need between one and two hours to walk through and see all of it. The terrain is sloped and you will need comfortable shoes and some physical effort when climbing between the different levels.
The entire site was built by the founder using hand labor and personal effort without machinery or large construction teams. This hands-on approach sets it apart from larger, commercially developed gardens elsewhere.
