Okiennik Wielki

Okiennik Wielki is a rock formation near Skarżyce featuring a distinctive natural limestone opening that cuts through the stone. The formation rises prominently from the surrounding landscape and shapes the character of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland region.

People settled beneath this rock in ancient times, as shown by stone tools discovered during archaeological work. Later the structure was used as a defensive fortification, with traces of reinforcements still visible in the rock.

The formation holds significance in Polish geological research as it represents the characteristic limestone formations of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.

The site is reachable on foot from Skarżyce and offers climbing routes suitable for different skill levels. Visit during dry weather when the rock is safe to traverse and the views are clearest.

Beneath the window lies a cave where people sought shelter during the Stone Age. This hidden chamber demonstrates how long the site served as a refuge for ancient inhabitants.
