Muzeum Katedry Anatomii Collegium Medicum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, Museu em Cracóvia, Polónia
The Museum of the Anatomy Department is an educational museum within the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, located on the first floor of the Anatomy Department in a historic building. The collection contains over 2000 specimens including skeletons, preserved organs, specimens with deformities, and wax models organized in three separate rooms by type.
The collection began in the early 1800s with bones and fetal specimens from Vienna. During World War II, the museum was secretly used for teaching, which underscores the importance of this collection to medical studies in Kraków.
The museum's name reflects its connection to the anatomy department of the university. The exhibits show how medical students historically learned by observing preserved specimens directly, which shaped medical education in the region for generations.
A visit requires prior booking by email, with groups limited to about 30 people to allow focused learning. Weekday visits from Monday through Friday work best when the university is active.
The oldest and most valuable part of the collection is named after Professor Ludwik Teichmann and holds specimens from the 1800s prepared by Teichmann himself. These historical objects show the craftsmanship of early anatomists and remain central treasures of the museum.
