Museum of Coastal Defence, Poland, Military museum in Hel, Poland.
The Museum of Coastal Defence occupies former German military structures on the Hel Peninsula and includes a nine-story fire control tower plus a B2 gun emplacement. The rooms hold exhibitions about artillery, military communications, naval vessels, and aircraft wreckage.
The site was part of the Schleswig-Holstein battery, built as a coastal fortification during World War Two. The German structures were preserved after the war and later converted into a museum that records this military past.
The exhibition shows how Poland's navy defended its coast and the people involved in that effort. Visitors can see rooms that document the lives of naval officers and pilots who served here.
The tower is accessed by climbing stairs, and each level offers different views across the peninsula and out to sea. The site is walkable and visitors should be prepared for exposure to weather, especially when exploring the upper floors.
The museum holds Poland's largest collection of grenades and displays an original 406 millimeter projectile from the coastal battery. This rare munition piece weighs more than one ton and demonstrates the enormous firepower that was stationed here.
