Palenica, Mountain summit in Silesian Beskids, Poland
Palenica is a mountain summit in the Silesian Beskids that rises to 688 meters above sea level. The peak is part of the Błatnia Range and overlooks surrounding terrain.
The summit contains ancient stone earthworks that date back around 2500 years and form an elliptical enclosure. These remains suggest early human settlement in the region.
During the 17th century, the summit served as a location for evangelical religious ceremonies, known as Forest Churches, gathering local communities.
Access to the summit is via an unmarked trail that connects with established hiking routes in the area. Good footwear and weather protection are recommended, as the exposed ridge is subject to wind and rain.
The summit contains a cluster of roughly one hundred stone mounds whose original purpose remains unclear. Researchers continue to study these formations to understand their significance in ancient times.
