Strzelecki Garden in Kraków, Municipal park in Kraków, Poland
Strzelecki Garden is a municipal park in Kraków, situated between Lubicz, Bosacka, Topolowa, and Zygmunta Augusta streets. It features tree-lined paths, open green areas, and several monuments scattered across the grounds, along with the Celestat building near its center.
The garden was laid out in 1837 as the third home of the Kraków Shooting Brotherhood, a fraternal order with roots going back to the 13th century. Over time, the site shifted from a private shooting ground to a public green space open to all residents.
The Celestat building inside the garden now serves as a branch of the Kraków Historical Museum, where visitors can explore exhibitions about the Shooting Brotherhood. The name Strzelecki comes from the Polish word for a shooter or marksman, directly tied to this history.
The park is open to all and has paved, level paths that are easy to walk even with a stroller or wheelchair. A visit pairs well with a stroll through the surrounding streets of the district.
The Kraków Shooting Brotherhood still exists today and occasionally holds ceremonies in and around the garden, including the election of a shooting king chosen through competition. This tradition of crowning a king among members has continued without interruption for centuries.
