Bednarski Park in Kraków, Public park in Podgórze district, Kraków, Poland.
Bednarski Park is a public park in the Podgórze district of Kraków, Poland, laid out on the grounds of a former limestone quarry. Winding paths cut through dense woodland and pass alongside exposed stone walls that still shape the uneven terrain left by the old excavation.
The site served as a limestone quarry from medieval times and was left abandoned after extraction ended. In the early 20th century, a local school principal named Wojciech Bednarski drove the effort to turn the disused land into a public park, which was later named in his honor.
The lowest point of the old quarry now forms an open area at the heart of the park, used by families and school groups during warmer months. The exposed limestone walls are still clearly visible and give the place a look unlike any ordinary city park.
The park is reachable from Krzemionki Street and Parkowa Street through several entry points. Inside there is a children's playground, outdoor exercise equipment, and shaded areas well suited for a walk at any time of day.
During the 1950s, the lowest part of the old quarry was used as a winter ice rink where orchestras played while families skated under colored lights. This detail is rarely mentioned today and surprises most visitors who discover it.
