Polana pod Wołoszynem

Polana pod Wołoszynem is a mountain meadow situated at 1250 meters on the northeastern slope below the Wołoszyn ridge in the High Tatras. Two marked trails intersect here: a red-marked route connecting Toporowa Cyrhla to Morskie Oko and another path leading from Rusinowa Polana.

Until 1932, the meadow was part of the Eagle Path trail system, which was subsequently removed to protect the surrounding wilderness. This shift reflected changing priorities from mountain access to environmental preservation.

The meadow served as a significant sheep grazing area until the 1950s, when shepherds brought their flocks to these heights. The scattered huts that once housed them are reminders of a pastoral way of life that shaped this landscape for generations.

The meadow sits at the intersection of two established trails, making it straightforward to find and navigate. In foggy or poor weather, stick to the marked paths since visibility can drop quickly at this elevation.

The meadow has shrunk to just 0.5 hectares, representing one-tenth of its original size. This reduction happened gradually as forest naturally reclaimed the space over the decades.
