Pomnik Budowy Szosy Brzeskiej w Warszawie

The Pomnik Budowy Szosy Brzeskiej is an iron obelisk approximately 14 meters tall set on a rectangular base in Praga-Południe district. Detailed relief sculptures cover its surface, depicting scenes from Warsaw, Siedlce, and Brest, along with imagery from the road construction process.

The monument was erected in 1825 to commemorate the completion of a paved road connecting Warsaw and Brest, constructed between 1820 and 1823. Throughout the 20th century it underwent multiple restorations that preserved its condition for later generations.

The monument became a symbol of progress for people at the time, marking the region's improved connections through infrastructure. The commemorative medals and artistic works created around it show how the community valued this advancement.

The obelisk stands on Grochowska Street, a main thoroughfare in Praga-Południe, and is easy to reach on foot from nearby areas. The site is outdoors and accessible at any time, making it convenient for impromptu visits.

The front displays Roman numerals MDCCCXXII with remarkably realistic depictions of workers engaged in road construction tasks. These finely carved relief details serve as a rare visual record of early 19th-century labor practices and engineering methods.
