Episcopal palace in Skierniewice

The Episcopal palace in Skierniewice is a Neoclassical castle with white facades, tall windows, and a central columned portico. The complete grounds span about 30 hectares and include several auxiliary buildings such as carriage houses and guard lodges alongside the main residence.

Architect Efraim Schroeger completed the final major renovation in 1780, transforming the building into the residence of the Gniezno archbishops. This renovation established the palace as a center of ecclesiastical authority in the region.

The palace served as the residence of the Gniezno archbishops and shaped local spiritual life for generations. The building itself reflects the power and status this religious leadership held in the community.

The site is open to visitors only on the first Saturday of each month, so plan your visit accordingly. Access includes both the main building and the surrounding grounds with all auxiliary structures.

Since the end of World War I, the palace has housed research facilities of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. This dual role as both a historical monument and a working research center is uncommon for a building of this age.
