Skierniewice Roundhouse

Skierniewice Roundhouse is a railway-themed building with a circular structure and central turntable for locomotive movement. The complex includes multiple maintenance bays, exhibition halls, and an extensive collection of steam locomotives, electric locomotives, and freight cars from different eras.

This facility was established in 1845 and operated as an active railway workshop until it closed in 1991. Following its conversion into a preservation center, the site became a symbol of Polish railway heritage, safeguarding vehicles and equipment that generations of railway workers knew.

The site carries the name of its city and serves as a gathering place where railway workers and enthusiasts connect with local industrial history. Visitors can observe how this collection reflects the technical advancement of Poland across multiple generations.

Plan your visit for morning hours when light conditions clearly show the details of the machines. The grounds are relatively flat, but some areas require care when boarding locomotives or navigating between vehicles.

Among the exhibits are rare electric locomotives such as the AEG 4184, a prototype from early industrial electrification. These machines reveal a lesser-known side of Polish railway technology often overlooked when attention focuses on famous steam engines.
