Church of St. Joseph in Sandomierz

The Church of St. Joseph is a Baroque brick structure in Sandomierz with architectural features typical of 17th-century religious buildings in southeastern Poland. The complex includes the main church and an attached monastery with various rooms and courtyards.

The church and monastery complex was built between 1679 and 1689 during a period of significant religious construction in the region. Major renovations occurred from 1809 to 1823, restoring the structure after it had suffered damage.

The western courtyard holds stations of the Cross from the second half of the 18th century, surrounded by walls with small chapels. Visitors can walk through and see how local people have used this space for prayer over generations.

The building is normally closed to visitors, but tours can be arranged by contacting the resident nun through the doorbell at the rectory. It is best to call ahead to confirm someone will be available.

The underground crypt contains the coffin of Teresa Morsztynówna from 1698, which has survived in remarkable condition over more than 300 years. This preservation offers insight into burial practices of that era.
