Papowo Biskupie Castle

The castle complex stands on an artificial hill between two lakes, with remaining walls constructed from granite stones and medieval bricks.

The Teutonic Knights built this fortification in 1287, establishing it as one of their first regular commandry castles in the region.

The structure exemplifies medieval military architecture through its four-wing design, with an internal courtyard measuring 41 meters on each side.

Visitors can access the northern wing and fragments of the foregate wall without paying an entrance fee throughout the year.

The castle's construction method differs from other Teutonic fortifications by incorporating glacial erratic stones and crushed granite in its walls.
