Old Granary in Olsztyn

The Old Granary in Olsztyn is a two-story wooden structure built from larch timber with rectangular windows throughout its facade. The building demonstrates traditional construction methods typical of rural storage facilities from the 18th century.

The structure was built in 1783 in Borowno village for a local landowner named Franciszek Paciorkowski. It was moved to Olsztyn in 2007 and painstakingly reconstructed to preserve this important piece of rural heritage.

The structure shows how people once stored grain using timber construction methods developed over centuries. Walking through it reveals the practical knowledge that rural builders applied to protect harvests from moisture and pests.

It is best to wear comfortable shoes as visiting involves moving between two levels and observing the construction details of wooden beams. Take your time to look closely at how the timber supports are arranged, as this reveals much about the building's design.

The second floor features one of the longest wooden support beams found in Polish wooden architecture, showcasing the skill of ancient craftspeople. The year of construction is carved directly into the door frame, a detail that marks more than two centuries of survival and relocation.
