Holy Cross Sanctuary in Braniewo, Baroque church in Braniewo, Poland.
The Holy Cross Sanctuary displays exposed brick facades without plaster finishes, intersecting hip roofs with ceramic tiles, and a central dome supported by pendentives crowned with a lantern structure.
Constructed between 1722 and 1747 under the influence of Teofil Zabłocki with financial support from Archbishop Teodor Potocki, replacing an earlier wooden pilgrimage shrine destroyed during the Swedish invasion in 1626.
The church serves as the only surviving structure in Warmia built on a Greek cross layout and houses Late Baroque furnishings including the main altar from 1738 featuring the miraculous Throne of Mercy icon.
The sanctuary remains accessible by prior arrangement and is registered as an immovable monument under registry numbers A-422 and B/40, with comprehensive renovations completed after World War II including organ restoration.
This church represents the sole example of Greek cross architectural layout in the Warmia region, distinguished by its exposed brick construction and association with the Redemptorist congregation since the monastery complex construction between 1927 and 1929.
