Chata Sabały, Wooden house from 1800 in Zakopane, Poland

The Sabała house is a wooden building from the early 19th century in Zakopane that shows traditional mountain architecture with dark wooden beams, steep roofs, and decorated entrances. The structure on Krzeptówki street contains several rooms including a hall with a bread oven, a basement, and a covered well that remain in their original form.

The house was built in the 18th century by Sabała's ancestors in the Śląsko-Spiska style, making it one of the oldest surviving buildings in Zakopane. Jan Krzeptowski Sabała was born there in 1809 and lived in it his whole life. From 1979 to 1984 it housed an ethnographic exhibition of the Tatra Museum.

The house is called Sabałówka after Jan Krzeptowski Sabała, born here in 1809 and a musician and storyteller of the Goral highlanders. Its interior keeps the former furnishings of the Podhale region, and between 1979 and 1984 it housed an ethnographic exhibition of the Tatra Museum.

The house is located at Krzeptówki street number 17 and can be reached on foot. You should allow enough time when visiting to look at the different rooms and their original furnishings at a comfortable pace.

Jan Krzeptowski Sabała was not just a mountain guide but also a storyteller whose tales became well known and documented Goral culture. His personal story made this place an important record of mountain life in the early days of Zakopane.
