Chata Sabały, Wooden house from 1800 in Zakopane, Poland

The Sabała house is a wooden building from the early 19th century in Zakopane that shows traditional mountain architecture with dark wooden beams, steep roofs, and decorated entrances. The structure on Krzeptówki street contains several rooms including a hall with a bread oven, a basement, and a covered well that remain in their original form.

The house was built at the start of the 19th century and belonged to Jan Krzeptowski Sabała, a respected mountain guide and storyteller known throughout the Tatra region. This building is linked to the early history of Zakopane, which developed into a major mountain settlement during the 1800s.

The house displays furnishings and objects that reflect the everyday life of Goral people in the Tatra region. You can see traditional furniture and tools that show how people lived and worked in this mountain community.

The house is located at Krzeptówki street number 17 and can be reached on foot. You should allow enough time when visiting to look at the different rooms and their original furnishings at a comfortable pace.

Jan Krzeptowski Sabała was not just a mountain guide but also a storyteller whose tales became well known and documented Goral culture. His personal story made this place an important record of mountain life in the early days of Zakopane.
