Kościół Matki Bożej Bolesnej w Mariańskim Porzeczu

Kościół Matki Bożej Bolesnej is a wooden basilica in Mariańskie Porzecze featuring two square towers on its western facade and vertical wooden planks covering the exterior. The structure has a nave leading to an eastern choir and is topped with a pitched roof.

Built in 1776 following a fire that destroyed the original structure, the church was designated a diocesan sanctuary dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows in 1968. This transformation recognized its spiritual importance to the broader Catholic community.

The interior displays wall paintings from the late 18th century in shades of gray, olive, brown, blue, and yellow that shape how visitors experience the sacred space. These decorations reflect the artistic traditions of the region's Catholic communities.

Visitors can explore the church during regular hours and attend daily masses if they wish. Major celebrations and gatherings occur on July 15 and the second Sunday of September, which are good times to experience the community atmosphere.

The sanctuary houses a revered painting of Our Lady of Sorrows that arrived from Podegrodzie in 1699, brought by Father Stanislaw Papczinski. This image has become the spiritual center of the site and draws pilgrims who come to pray before it.
