Neves-Corvo mine

Neves-Corvo is an underground copper mine in Santa Bárbara de Padrões that also extracts zinc and lead. Operations rely on a complex tunnel network connecting multiple mineral deposits at varying depths.

Mining operations started in 1989 through a partnership between the Portuguese government and Rio Tinto. This launch marked the beginning of sustained industrial development in the region.
