Torre de Quintela

Torre de Quintela is a square stone tower with fortified corners standing in Vila Marim, Portugal. The structure preserves its original thirteenth-century base while displaying windows and architectural features that were incorporated during fourteenth-century modifications.

The tower was built in the thirteenth century as a defensive structure that formed part of a regional protection system under King John II's rule. Later modifications during the fourteenth century reshaped portions of the structure while maintaining its core defensive purpose.

The tower and the adjacent Casa de Quintela form a unified statement about how Portuguese nobles built and adapted their strongholds over time. They show what military needs looked like for a local family during the medieval period.
