Entroncamento, municipality and city in Portugal
Entroncamento is a municipality in central Portugal where two railway lines intersect, creating a city centered around train transport. The former station now houses the National Railway Museum, displaying historic locomotives, carriages, and equipment that document Portugal's rail history.
The city was founded in 1862 when the first railway line opened toward Abrantes, followed in 1864 by a line toward Soure. The meeting point of these two lines at Ponte da Pedra gave the city its name and established it as a major rail hub.
You can explore the city on foot or by bicycle thanks to well-organized streets. The Bonito Green Park offers open spaces for relaxing and serves as a good base for visiting nearby attractions.
The museum offers a special train conductor simulator on the third Saturday of each month, where visitors can experience driving a real locomotive. This rare opportunity allows people to personally feel what it was like to be part of the rail transport history.
