Roman ruins of Pisões

The Roman ruins of Pisões contain over 40 chambers with black and white geometric mosaics, baths, and extensive agricultural facilities spread across multiple buildings.

The villa, inhabited by the Gaio Atílio Gordo family from the 1st to 4th century, served as a major agricultural center supplying food to Pax Julia.

The discovery of Visigothic artifacts and an altar dedicated to goddess Hygieia demonstrates the mixture of Roman religious practices with local traditions.

The archaeological site lies 10 kilometers southwest of Beja, accessible through a dirt road that leads visitors to the preserved Roman structures.

A 58-meter-long Roman dam north of the villa created a reservoir holding 38,000 cubic meters of water for agriculture and a swimming facility.
