Castle of Alvito

The Castle of Alvito is a stone fortress that combines military and palatial functions, blending Islamic, Gothic, and Manueline architectural features. The structure reveals different building styles that developed over time and are visible throughout the fortress.

Joao Fernandes da Silveira commissioned the fortress at the end of the 15th century after receiving the title of Baron of Alvito. The building was later recognized as a National Monument in 1910, marking its importance to Portuguese architectural and military history.
