Centro de Apoio Social de Runa

The Centro de Apoio Social de Runa is a former military hospital with a rectangular structure and classical 19th-century architecture set in a landscaped estate. The complex features a chapel and multiple buildings designed to accommodate residents, with gardens and tree-lined approaches creating a coherent ensemble.

A princess commissioned the construction of this military veterans' home in the early 19th century as a gesture of royal support and care. The project took decades to complete before it finally welcomed its first residents.

The chapel at the center holds a golden vessel decorated with precious stones that once belonged to royalty, serving as a tangible link to the building's noble origins. Visitors can sense how the place was designed to honor those it served through its careful artistic details.

The estate is easily reached through a tree-lined avenue lined with cultivated gardens that provide a pleasant approach to the complex. Walking around the grounds allows visitors to appreciate the architectural layout and the landscape design in full.
