Cinema Batalha, Art Deco movie theater in Santo Ildefonso, Portugal
Cinema Batalha features two modern projection rooms and a dedicated film installation space spread across its main building at Praça da Batalha.
Established in 1906 as Salão High-Life, the theater underwent major transformations in the 1940s when architect Artur Andrade created the current structure.
The renovation in 2022 revealed long-hidden frescoes by Portuguese painter Júlio Pomar, which had remained covered for eight decades during political tensions.
The cinema screens international films and hosts cultural events, with tickets available for purchase on-site or through advance reservations.
Following its restoration, Cinema Batalha now contains a specialized 40-square-meter room dedicated exclusively to film installations and experimental projects.
