Torre marks the highest point of continental Portugal at 1,993 meters, featuring granite formations and panoramic mountain views across the surrounding ranges.

The granite ridge of Serra da Estrela served as Portugal's southern frontier, with archaeological evidence indicating human presence since the fifth millennium BC.

The summit area connects to regional traditions of shepherding, cheese production, and the development of the Serra da Estrela mountain dog breed.

A paved road leads directly to the summit, making it accessible by vehicle throughout the year, with winter conditions requiring snow chains.

Three major Portuguese rivers originate near the summit: the Mondego, Zezere, and Alva, supporting the regional water system and local agriculture.
