The museum occupies the former Visconde de Sacavém Palace, a late-romantic architectural complex with surrounding gardens, lakes, and an outdoor amphitheater.
The museum, officially established in 1983, holds collections from the 17th and 18th centuries, including works by Maria dos Cacos and Manuel Mafra.
The permanent exhibition presents Portuguese ceramics, including significant pieces from Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro and collections from the Royal Rato Factory.
The museum operates from 10:00 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 18:00 between May and September, with shorter hours from October to April.
The museum houses 1,200 tiles and 40 panels representing Portuguese, Hispanic-Moorish, and Dutch production from the 16th to 20th centuries.
