Serra do Açor Protected Landscape

Serra do Açor Protected Landscape encompasses 346 hectares of mountainous terrain, reaching altitudes between 400 and 1,012 meters in central Portugal.

The Portuguese government established Serra do Açor as a protected landscape on March 3, 1982, to preserve its native vegetation and ecological values.

The region displays traditional terraced agriculture systems developed by local communities, demonstrating long-standing water management techniques through stone sluices.

The Instituto da Conservação da Natureza e das Florestas manages the site, which remains open throughout the year for hiking and nature observation.

Mata da Margaraça within the protected area contains primitive caducifoliate forests, hosting rare plant species like the Martagão lily and Solomon's seal.
