Boa Nova Lighthouse

Boa Nova Lighthouse is a 46-meter concrete tower with a white surface marked by black stripes dividing ten floors. The tower dominates the coastal landscape and is visible from many vantage points.

The lighthouse began operating in December 1926 and replaced a smaller structure from 1916 that guided ships along the Portuguese coast. Since then it has served generations of seafarers as a reliable navigation point.

The name comes from the nearby bay and fishing village that has drawn seafarers for generations. The area retains its maritime character and remains valued by visitors for its connection to the sea.

The site is easily accessible from the coastline and offers views over the sea and rocky shore. Visitors can explore the neighboring museum building, which displays items related to lighthouse and navigation technology.

Between 1926 and 1962 the structure housed a training facility where lighthouse keepers learned maritime safety and signal operations. This educational role made it a significant center for developing personnel skills in coastal management.
