Lagoa de Albufeira Beach

Lagoa de Albufeira Beach is a coastal area shaped by two large lagoons that cut into the sandy shoreline along the Atlantic. The water system extends roughly one kilometer inland through marshland dotted with vegetation where fresh and salt water meet.

Portuguese royalty chose this spot during the 1800s as a place for retreat and reflection, drawn to its natural setting. This royal connection marked the location as an important place in the region's past.

One of the lagoons reaches considerable depth beneath the surface while nearby areas stay quite shallow, creating two very different water experiences. This variation in depth means visitors can find conditions suited to swimming, wading, or exploring depending on their preference.
