Praia de Santo Amaro is a sandy beach in Oeiras that stretches for about one kilometer along the Tagus River estuary, with a marina on one side and São João das Maias Fort on the other. The adjacent São João das Maias Fort was built in 1644 to protect the river route, with a distinctive five-sided shape. Inside the fort stands a chapel from the 1700s, decorated with traditional Portuguese blue and white tiles that reflect the artistic tastes of that era.
