Porto Santo beach

Porto Santo is a sand beach on Madeira with roughly 9 kilometers of golden coastline meeting turquoise waters. The water temperature stays mild year-round, making it comfortable for swimming and water activities throughout the seasons.

The beach became an important anchorage point for Portuguese sailors who settled on the island during the 15th century. This early settlement laid the foundation for what would become the modern town of Porto Santo.

The beach hosts the annual Columbus Festival, commemorating Christopher Columbus's connection to Porto Santo through traditional music and maritime activities.

The beach holds Blue Flag status and offers showers, restaurants, and rental services for water sports equipment. Designated swimming zones provide safe and comfortable areas for swimmers of all levels.

The sand grains contain high levels of strontium and calcium carbonate, which give it therapeutic properties. Visitors often report feeling relief from bone and muscle strain after spending time on this particular coastline.
