Quinta da Cardiga

Palácio da Quinta da Cardiga is an agricultural complex with multiple structures including a tower, chapel, cellar, barn, cloister, and palace located on the banks of the Tagus River. The different buildings form a unified estate designed to support farming operations.

The estate originated with the Templars and was later taken over by the Order of Christ, which added various buildings featuring architectural elements from the 16th century. This connection to two significant religious orders shaped the place's early development.

The estate displays Portuguese rural architecture through its Manueline portal and decorative tiles from the 17th and 18th centuries. These ornamental elements reflect the artistic tastes of those who lived here over many generations.

The estate is situated near the river and surrounded by countryside, making it easy to walk through the different areas at your own pace. The location offers plenty of space to explore all the buildings and structures without feeling crowded.
