Alhandra, São João dos Montes e Calhandriz

Alhandra, São João dos Montes and Calhandriz is a civil parish located north of Lisbon, comprising three distinct communities that merged into a single administrative unit. The region includes residential areas, local services, and community spaces spread across the three settlements.

The three settlements merged administratively in 2013, creating a single parish unit that consolidated local governance. This reorganization was part of a broader administrative reform affecting the Lisbon metropolitan area.

The local communities celebrate several festivals throughout the year with strong participation from residents. In June, the Popular Saints Festivities draw people into the streets with decorations, music, and traditional gatherings that define the social rhythm of the region.

The main administrative office is based at Praça 7 de Março in Alhandra, with branch offices available in São João dos Montes and Calhandriz for local services. Visitors can access administrative support at whichever location is most convenient to their location.

The three communities retained their separate names and local identities even after administrative consolidation in 2013. This is relatively rare, as most municipal mergers typically result in simplified unified names.
