Casa do Loureiro, conjunto arquitetónico em Silgueiros, município de Viseu

Casa do Loureiro is an old manor house in the village of Silgueiros, Portugal, built with stone walls, clay tile roofing, and simple wooden windows. The property includes a main residence, two attached chapels in different architectural styles, and a tower with carved stone details that reflect centuries of family history.

The Loureiro family settled in the area during medieval times and became connected to the local church of Santa Maria de Silgueiros. In the 1500s, a notable family member named Luís de Loureiro was honored by the king for military service and received a large noble estate called a morgado.

The name Loureiro comes from the laurel tree, a plant that was important to the original owners and may have grown in the area. Over centuries, the house served as a gathering place for local festivals, family celebrations, and communal events that shaped village life.

The property sits in a quiet village setting best explored on foot, with surrounding fields and vegetation as part of the experience. Access to interior spaces may be limited, so checking ahead with local information or visiting when guided tours are available will help you see the full scope of the site.

Two attached chapels display distinct architectural styles: one built in the ornate Manuelino style with elaborate stonework and another in the Maneirista style, each bearing different coats of arms carved in stone. The tower itself features a carved stone coat of arms, marking the house's rank and importance among local estates.
