Al Koot Fort

Al Koot Fort is a square-shaped fortress in Doha featuring three round towers and one rectangular tower that reflect traditional Qatari defensive design. The walls demonstrate construction methods built to protect the settlement from threats.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani ordered the reconstruction of the abandoned structure in 1927, preserving its original military design. The building served as a key part of the city's defense system for many decades.

The fort displays traditional Qatari craftsmanship through fishing gear, wooden decorative items, and maritime objects that reflect the region's deep connection to the sea. Historical photographs on view show how residents lived and worked in earlier times.

The fort is easily reached via Souq Waqif or Msheireb metro stations and sits near the old town area. Visitors should wear comfortable clothing since exploring the rooms involves walking throughout the building.

The building went through several role changes, serving first as a police station, then as a prison, and later as a military fortress. Only in recent times was it transformed into a museum to preserve Qatar's heritage.
